One day a father and 8-year-old daughter were walking on the beach after a lunch with family. The pair came to a stretch of the beach where thousands of starfish were stranded.
The child at first was distressed that so many were dying. She implored her father “What can we do?” Then she began tossing one starfish after another back into the ocean. The father helped but realizing the impossibility of saving all the starfish said to the child, “You can’t help them all.”
The little girl while tossing another starfish back to safety responded “Well, I helped THAT one.” And she continued her work.
Like that little girl, we at One Starfish with the help of professionals, volunteers, civic leaders and so many others stand to help individuals back toward a life of greater health, connection, and security that come with living in a HOME.
